EXCITING DAY

Today is a special day for Romance authors. In a few minutes calls will begin going out to writers who have finaled in the Golden Heart and RITA awards.  The Golden Heart is for unpublished manuscripts and the RITA is for published books.  The winners will be announced this summer at a gala event, in front of thousands, complete with golden statues.     

Five years ago today, I was one of the authors called. I can honestly say it was one of the most exciting days of my life. I get gooseflesh thinking about it. What an honor to have my manuscript chosen.  It was days before my feet touched the floor. What followed proved to be  even more important in my life. I became a part of a sisterhood of more than sixty women writers who also received a call that day. They became my sisters. Officially, we call ourselves the Ruby Slippered Sisterhood. We are scattered around the globe, living on different continents, in different hemispheres, yet, thanks to the internet, we are in touch daily. Through the years we have supported each other though highs and lows of our personal and professional lives. I don’t know what I would have done without the support of my sisters. We continue to write and publish in many genres. We also blog daily, offering writing craft tips.
